An interview with Emma Watson

Mark Lawson made an interview with Emma Watson.

The interviewer Mark Lawson began the interview with a scene from the movie “Harry Potter and the half-blood prince” and mentioned about his earlier interviews with Daniel Radcliffe and Timothy Spall and asked whether she read the books as soon as they appeared to have an idea about what she might have to do on screen. Emma Watson said that she read the books before she approached the films and added that she first read the books from her own perspective before she read it from Hermione’s perspective.

Then the interviewer said that the focus of the book was changing and asked her from the Hermione’s perspective whether she would like to say whether she could play quidditch or something else because Hermione was quite in the background in this film. Emma said that she missed to be part of the action in this film but added that she was more part of the plot in the third film.

Mark Lawson said that there were many good actors like Jim Broadbent or Maggie Smith, and asked her whether they gave advices or if she asked for advices. Emma Watson said that they actually grew up with them and that she didn’t saw them like ‘actors’, they were more like friends. And she added that she didn’t ask for advice but actually she should have asked.

The interviewer said that she spent her whole childhood playing in this eight films and asked her how she would feel about this when she would look back to these eight films. And Emma Watson said that it was amazing to be part of eight big films and she added that she was proud of being part of this.

The interviewer said that people got embarrassed sometimes when their parents got out some home videos when they were young and asked her whether she found her early films hard to look at. Emma Watson said that she found to watch the earlier ones easier because of the fact that she could detach herself form the younger self better then when she watched the fifth or sixth film.

The interviewer said that there were times when she walked outside and saw people with her picture in their hands and asked her whether she felt weird about that. She replayed by saying that she thought that this was a very weird experience for her and that her childhood wasn’t normal but she added that she liked it. She also added that they were lucky for the people around them and that they weren’t treated like movie stars but more like kids.

Mark Lawson said they were the center of the very weird world but said that the fact that they were three children going through it together must have helped them. And Emma Watson agreed with him and said she was very lucky to have Daniel and Rupert as friends.

The interviewer asked whether one of them said that he/she didn’t want to play in the next film. Emma Watson said they didn’t and added that even when they would make twenty films, Daniel and Rupert would play.

Mark Lawson asked her whether it was true what the newspapers said about her giving up acting. She said that it was wrong and that the newspapers got a little confused because of the fact that she was going to the university. She said that she managed to go to school while doing eight Harry Potter films and she added that going to the university didn’t mean that she would give up acting.

The interviewer asked whether she had difficulties in school during the times they were making the films. She replayed by saying that it would be a lie to say that she hadn’t had any difficulties but she said that she had a couple of good friends who helped her and that she liked going to school.

And Mark Lawson ended the interview here by remembering the listeners that the film ‘Harry Potter and the half-blood prince’ was coming out to cinema.

The questions I would ask to Emma Watson:
- Is your personality similar to Hermione's personality? Did you have difficulty in playing this character or was it easy for you?
- When you started making the first movie of the Harry Potter series, did you think that it would get such a success?
